Alonte is part of the Vicenza province but historically it has closer ties to Mantova and Verona. Owned at one time by the Bishop of Mantova up until the mid 700's when it was sold to the family of Honorius II.  The city was destroyed during the Hungarian invasions of the 1300's.  From the early 1300's until 1500's Alonte was one of the many feudal strong holds.
