Rock Climbing In Italy | Sicily

MARIELLA CLIMBING AREA | SICILY

The Mariella Crack'n'up is an obvious ridge of rock, north of M.Pellegrino, better known as Scaletta of Valdesi, divides the vast west face where you will find the ”Valdesi” sector, consisting of high east facing rock faces. On this side, a few hundred meters after the north ridge, you will find the Mariella crack ’n up sector. The routes have been equipped in a part of the vertical wall that is a light color and is cut by an obvious white dihedral on which the route that names this sector runs.

There are about ten single pitch routes and a few multi-pitch routes, the latter a lot more interesting. The place is appreciated especially in the long summer months when you need to escape from the scorching hot rock faces.

HOW TO GET TO THE AREA

From the centre of Palermo cross the Parco della Favorita towards Mondello. Proceed downhill for Viale Regina Margherita, ot the traffic light junction turn right up the road (Via Monte Ercta) towards the S.Rosalia sanctuary. Having driven along the road which lies beneath the ”Valdesi” sector, after a bend to the right continue for roughly 400 meters, park on the left where there is a widening of the road with rubbish bins. One hundred meters ahead a  short track to your left allows you to climb up to the base of the rock face.
