The Preistoria sector is on the east face of M.Pellegrino, in the Adduara area of the Palermo province. This side of the mountain is distinguished by tall red rock faces and enormous caves. The grotto’s overhanging, compact walls with concretions have attracted in the post the attention of climbers more inclined to sport climbing. The CMAS guys, l.Mannaranno, A.Nastri and F.Valentino equipped these beautiful, athletic routes needing endurance, one in particular, lL GIUDICE was one of the first 8a climbed by a Sicilian. Unfortunately the bolts aren’t of the best quality, in fact on some routes the bolts are rusty. Years after the sector was bolted these, the area where is located was closed by a government regulation, to save the ancient graffiti found on the walls of the Addaura cave. There is now limited climbing but strict controls and behavior and conduct.
Be careful: on windy days rocks may fall from the above rock face.
From the centre of Palermo cross the Parco della Favorita towards Mondello. Proceed downhill for Viale Regina Margherita, at the traffic light junction turn right up the road (Via Monte Ercta) towards the S.Rosalia sanctuary. Once you have passed the ”Valdesi" sector after the bend turning right proceed for 1 kilometer and turn into a downhill road to your left (Via Annone). Park where the tarmac road ends. After the fence follow a trail to your left (red signs) that will take you underneath the crag.
