Rock Climbing In Italy | Sicily Region

Caltavuturo Rockclimbing Area | Sicily

Surrounding this small town situated in a quiet and almost fearful silence at the foot of Rocca di Sciara, not far from the coast and part of a natural context typical of the Sicilian interior, this is where one of the most recent island crags was born. The massive size of Rocca di Sciara instead hangs over and almost looks like a threat from above, according to some local accounts it seems to have been climbed for the first time in the 1980s by some climbers from Torino, but unfortunately we were unable to find any trace or topo of this climb. At present there is only one route opened recently but it certainly won’t be long before other multi pitch routes and difficult ascents will be opened particularly on this wonderful vertical stretch on the left. A visit to these crags is essential for anyone who loves to combine climbing with discovering really interesting places and people. After a day on the beautiful limestone at the same time enjoying a view stretching from the green valleys to the nearby coastline make the most of the hearty welcome and hospitality of the locals. They will be able to give you any information as they are always willing to show off all aspects of their area of which they are justly proud.
