CLIMBING GUIDE to Italy

Climbing in Campania

capri 3

Rock climbing in the Campania region has became better developed over the past few years. Now you can find several bolted walls above the famous coast line of Amalfi and out on the Islands of Capri and Ischia. This region offers a great mixture of outdoor activity and cultural heritage. Visit Herculean (which has better ruins than Pompei) in the morning, then head for the beach during mid day with a nice picnic lunch, and then wrap up the day with a few routes offering stunning views. This should entice any reluctant 'belay slave' to tag along for a fun vacation.

Tourism in Campania has old traditions. Already a place of leisure in Roman times, Campania acquired an elite clientele, particularly foreigners attracted by the wonders of Nature, in the course of the last century. Capri, Ischia, Sorrento and Amalfi became the chosen destinations of visitors from many countries, however, there are hosts of equally beautiful sights and fine scenery in the inland areas.

Campania is a great off season climbing destination. You can enjoy the Amalfi coast, Capri and Ischia islands, and visit all the local tourist sites during your non climbing days. This is not a summer spot to climb.
